Child Support – How much should be paid and for how long?

The maintenance obligation involves providing for the child’s material and non-material needs and arises by operation of law. The amount of child support is determined by the court, often using advisory tables from the Ministry of Justice. The amount is influenced by the parent’s income, the number of children, the child’s age, and the number of days per month spent with the parent. It is paid in regular monthly installments. The parents’ maintenance obligation towards the child does not end at adulthood (18 years), but when the child is able to support themselves (typically after completing their education).

Practical Examples of Child Support

Our law firm frequently represents clients in determining child support amounts. For example, Mr. Petr had a 16-year-old daughter whom he unfortunately did not see at all. Since he earned 40,000 CZK net per month, his child support was set at 8,000 CZK.
